Tips to make our chickens more comfortable???

13

We had a dog sneak in the coops and chase them around about a month ago and then again 2 weeks ago. None were killed, only a few feathers were scattered. Ever since then little to no eggs and they rarely come out except for food ???? The weather has been great so we figured eggs would increased but still nothing. We’ve been giving lots of treats. Any advice?

We had a dog get in our coop twice and both times they quit laying for a bit. I chalked it up to them being traumatized by the dog.

Poor babies. They are stressed out. Need a more secure coop and it will take time for them to feel secure again

When that happens to us it take a week to a few weeks for ours to settle down ???? poor chickens

I have 3 chickens that got attacked by a hawk. The head hen is a Rhode Island Red and she took the worst of the attack, she wasn’t hurt but it was clear she fought back hard. It took her a month and a half before she began laying again. She was eating fine and drinking good. So I figured the stress got to her. She lays everyday now.

What kind of chickens are these? They’re beautiful

And I am very sorry about the fiasco! Maybe just time will allow them to be comfortable again and keeping your routine the same. We had a hawk come down and grab one of our hens and they were a little scattered for awhile. But eventually they became themselves again.

We had a hawk attack last summer. And the hens stayed cooped up and stopped laying for about 5 weeks. They slowly came around and started exploring outdoors again and started laying too.

Have you done anything to make them safe from further dog attacks? Same dog both times? Owner known? Lots of treats and hanging out with the birds should help them settle. Good luck. ????

Oh dear. We were extremely lucky as neither our little mutt or lab expressed any interest in the chickens.

If you go and spend time with them they may come out to see you. Try that for sometime and that should help them. Good luck.
