Chicken Still With A Torn Ligament

4

Took our girl Other Chicken to the vet. Posted a video last week of her not walking on one leg.

Diagnosis: she has an injury to her suspensory ligaments. It may heal completely and it may not and she won’t have use of the leg.

Anyone have experience?

I had a chicken with a high break in the femur and I went all in with a metal rod and cast. This looks easier to heal, I would wrap her leg in bandage for support and healing for a month or two.

I wonder if that is what happened to my little roo, the vet didn’t even say anything about an x-ray, which I was expecting x-ray. He hadn’t gotten better with the meds she gave me to give him. Pricey for no results.

Bandage for support and healing sounds like a good plan. Maybe not let her run around as much, keep her in a smaller area with a good buddy.

When my girl had an injured leg and it turned out broken. She was splinted then wrapped. Then inside in a crate for a couple of weeks. Then out for little walks, then in a portable play pen for puppies. She did well.

I think I would make a sling for her so she isnt putting any real weight on her leg. Allow her to sleep out of it and rearrange her several times a day while she is in it so the circulation doesnt get cut off.

Then lower it as she is able to allow weight back on it. You can Google them, they are really easy to make. Just make sure she can reach her food and water. Up her protein and give her rooster booster or Nutra drench poultry in her water to help her body heal.
