Shows My rooster does the same thing…Just chills in the nesting box.

I’ve had a rooster go broody! Lasted 3 days. My kids wouldn’t leave him alone. They broke 5 hens from being broody later that year. ????

Give him eggs. The ones my boy was on had small veins and had to bring out the Bator’s. Had 2 hens successfully hatch eggs. And only 1 hen managed to keep and raise 1 chick. The one hen disappeared along with the chicks.

Maybe he’s trying to win them over with perfect nests?

Take him out and do a quick inspection. He may be being bullied by the other rooster or the hens. If there was a hen setting, he could be giving her a break, occasionally there are ‘fatherly’ roosters who lend a hand like that. Rare but it does happen. Could just be a nice shady spot to hang out in as well , might be planning on talking up the ladies who deliver nextdoor…

Mine do this too! Everyone lives in harmony but two of my roosters will go in the coop, scratch around and squat like they’re laying an egg ????

Mine does that when he’s trying to court a hen. He is showing the girls where the “best” nest box is.

I have 2 bantam frizzle foo Roos and they both sleep and night and relax during the day in the nesting box.

My roos like to sit in my nesting boxes too. Mine are all male… I think it’s just a comfortable spot.

My young Roo would hide in the coop and as the ladies came in to lay their eggs he would get his personal time with them. The alpha rooster did not know.

He’s warming the nest up for the ladies. I have one that goes in the nest box then when a hen comes to the box, he gets out, she goes in and lays an egg and comes out. Then he gets back in the nest box and waits for the next hen….all day long he does this. He is one of 3 roosters and he is the dominate one and he is very sweet and gentle.

My second in command makes nests for the girls too. He scratches out a hollow, lays down and calls to the girls, gets out when they come and stands guard till she gets settled.
