Can a chicken go broody even if she’s not laying on any eggs?

I have a Brahma that doesn’t want to get out of the nesting box. She will stay in there even after I take the egg she’s laid out! I’ll take her out of the box and put her outside of the coop. She goes right back into the box. I went to take her out again and I SWEAR she growled at me! I took her out, much to her disdain, I swear she was cussing me out in chicken! I looked her all over and see no signs of any issues. She moves around and does typical chicken stuff when I take her out of the box and put her out in the yard but she always goes back to the nesting box and there’s no egg there. This is my first year with chickens so not sure what to make of her behavior.

She’s broody lol. They can go broody even BEFORE they begin to start laying, I have a OEGB pullet who went broody a 5 months old. At 6 months i gave her an egg to hatch to see if she was willing to sit the full term… She was willing and now has a month old baby chick lol still waiting for eggs…

Sounds like my bantams. They are broody all the time. I just keep taking the eggs, and I swear they would eat me up if they could when I take the eggs! They growl, screech and peck at me. I take them out of the nest box and they go right back in, even after I take the eggs.
