A 1 week old chick wont have gape worm. Gap worm isnt as common as most people think. And please dont deworm week old chicks their little digestive sytems are just figuring out food they dont need to be dewormed. Usually when they are gasping that young they are dying. What temp are you keeping them at?

Yes. 99 is too hot. Drop the temp down to 95. It is always helpful to have part of the brooder under the heat and part not under heat so that the chicks can chose how much warmth they need.

I would turn it off during the day. They’re probably getting too hot.

see how they act, if they’re huddled together then they are cold but 90 should be ok

Gape worm is rare in adults and unheard of in that young
If they are gasping it would be more respiratory illness

Hopefully you aren’t using cedar bedding that could be the problem if so. I use the largest totem and simply put the paper feed bags in there. Fit perfect, easy clean out.

Could it have bedding caught in its throat ?

How’s the baby doing? Did she/he make it?

oh I am so sorry. Trust me I know. Even as a Vet tech you know the best thing to do for some animals is to out them down. Don’t even know the animals yet the whole office cried every time. At least the sweet baby is no longer suffering. I am so very sorry.

Too young for worms. Respiratory issue.
